{"id":3378,"date":"2020-02-14T19:34:51","date_gmt":"2020-02-14T19:34:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/westernmirror.com\/?p=3378"},"modified":"2020-02-14T19:34:53","modified_gmt":"2020-02-14T19:34:53","slug":"fear-grips-hopewell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/westernmirror.com\/?p=3378","title":{"rendered":"Fear grips Hopewell"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Second man killed in three days<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Barrington Flemming &#8211; <\/strong>Staff Reporter<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fear now grips the community of Hopewell in Hanover as gunmen breached the State of Emergency, killing two men in three days forcing the Police High Command to up the ante in its continuous war on crime.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest homicide occurred on Wednesday night, leaving\n29-year-old Sheldon Hinds, otherwise called \u2018Breed\u2019 of Rock Top in the\ncommunity, dead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lucea Police, who are investigating, report that about\n9:05 p.m., Hinds was at a bar socializing with friends,following a candle light\nvigil along the roadway, which was done by friends of 28-year-old Damion\nBuchanan, otherwise called \u2018Cheetos\u2019, who was shot and killed in the Hopewell\nSquare Sunday night, when he was approached by a lone man, reportedly wearing a\nhoodie, who opened fire hitting him several times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patrons at the bar and passers-by were sent scampering for\ncover as the gunman escaped on foot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The police were called to the scene by residents and Hinds\nwas subsequently taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Buchanan was killed in a similar fashion on Sunday whilst at\nthe same bar, reportedly by a man wearing a hoodie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CRACKDOWN ON HOT SPOT <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commanding officer of the Hanover Police, Superintendent\nSharon Beeput, in response to the killings, said the Hopewell area was a\ntrouble spot by way of murders last year and the security forces will not allow\na repeat this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLast year that space gave me the most murders in this\ndivision, and we cannot afford for it to happen this year,\u201d she explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said as a result, the police will not be permitting any\nevent in Hopewell for a while and the bar, which has been the focal point for\nboth murders, has been order closed (temporarily) by the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are now enforcing the lockdown policy more stringently\nso all persons must get off the streets, no gathering; everyone should disperse\nand go to their respective homes.
