{"id":3302,"date":"2020-01-15T22:26:03","date_gmt":"2020-01-15T22:26:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/westernmirror.com\/?p=3302"},"modified":"2020-01-15T22:26:04","modified_gmt":"2020-01-15T22:26:04","slug":"bmw-fried-at-kfc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/westernmirror.com\/?p=3302","title":{"rendered":"BMW fried at KFC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Luxury vehicle mysteriously goes up in flames<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scores of curious onlookers, who would have usually been focused on getting their orders from the busy KFC Howard Cooke branch, could not peel their eyes away from the sight of a luxury vehicle \u2013 a BMW 320d, which had mysteriously and spontaneously caught fire in that fast food outlet\u2019s parking lot. The bizarre incident unfolded on Monday evening, January 13.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vehicle was said to have been parked at the venue for\nnearly four hours before its mysterious combustion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to an eyewitness, who observed the blaze and\nsprung into action with other onlookers to stop the fire from spreading, other\nvehicles were damaged, despite their best efforts. \u201cWhile those other vehicles\nsustained significant damage, we were able to push a blue Suzuki Swift motorcar\nout of harm\u2019s way. It only received minor fire damage,\u201d the eyewitness, who\nspoke on condition of anonymity, shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FIRE BRIGADE SLOW TO RESPOND<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the fire\u2019s impact was curtailed as a result of the\nactions of the brave onlookers, other observers at the scene felt the situation\ncould have been worse, and the slow response of the Jamaica Fire Brigade would\nhave aided in that, had regular civilians not intervened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen the fire first started, we called the Jamaica Fire\nBrigade almost right away, and it took them very long to come, although they\nare just one mile away at Freeport,\u201d an irate observer shared. \u201cIf it was not\nfor a man who connected a hose on the compound to a water supply and aimed it\nat the fire, another vehicle \u2013 a blue Toyota Corolla \u2013 could have gone up\ncompletely in flames too, which would have caused an even bigger fire.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s not unusual for people to come and park their vehicles\nhere for long periods of time while they go off to do their business, but a car\ngoing up in flames like this is new,\u201d shared one of the security guards on the\nKentucky Fried Chicken property, who added that the outlet would soon be\ninstituting paid parking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FLAMING BMWs RECALLED WORLDWIDE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Though it is unclear how many such incidents have occurred\nhere on Jamaican soil, BMWs mysteriously combusting across the USA and in\nsections of Europe last year, and in 2018, prompted the luxury brand to issue a\nmass recall of some of its vehicles, some 1.6 million of them, which were found\nto have mechanical defects which increased the likelihood of the cars bursting\ninto flames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recall specifically targeted vehicles made between 2010\nand 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mechanical defects, according to the Munich-based\ncompany, occurs as a result of diesel vehicles\u2019 coolant leaking from the\nexhaust gas recirculation module, part of the emissions reduction system.
