{"id":2902,"date":"2019-09-11T18:28:12","date_gmt":"2019-09-11T18:28:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/westernmirror.com\/?p=2902"},"modified":"2019-09-11T18:28:14","modified_gmt":"2019-09-11T18:28:14","slug":"shattered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/westernmirror.com\/?p=2902","title":{"rendered":"Shattered"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Six-month-old baby\u2019s murder crushes parents\u2019 world<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Barrington Flemming<\/strong> &#8211; Staff Reporter<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The 23-year-old\nfather of six-month-old Tira Thompson &#8211; the infant who was shot dead by\nmarauding gunmen in Hollywood, Norwood, St. James on Saturday, has been left\nconfused and in disbelief.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The quiet and soft-spoken young father, who wished not to be named, told the Western Mirror that he is feeling numb and can\u2019t make sense of the incident, which has shattered his world as Tira was his first and only child. He said he and his girlfriend were doing well and he had high hopes for the future until Saturday night, when three bullets took the life of his precious gem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" src=\"http:\/\/westernmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Chang-in-Norwood-700x394.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2906\" srcset=\"https:\/\/westernmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Chang-in-Norwood-700x394.jpg 700w, https:\/\/westernmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Chang-in-Norwood-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/westernmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Chang-in-Norwood-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/westernmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Chang-in-Norwood-747x420.jpg 747w, https:\/\/westernmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Chang-in-Norwood-640x360.jpg 640w, https:\/\/westernmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Chang-in-Norwood-681x383.jpg 681w, https:\/\/westernmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Chang-in-Norwood.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption><em>National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang, on a visit to Hollywood following the shooting death of six-month-old Tira Thompson<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tira\u2019s mother, who was also injured during the incident, is\ndistraught and barely coping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Montego Hills Police, who are investigating, indicated\nthat about 8:20 p.m., patrons were at a bar at Hollywood Square, when a motor\ncar with men aboard approached them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The men alighted from the vehicle armed with guns and opened\ngunfire at the patrons, hitting two teenagers, 14 and 16, before opening fire\nrandomly in the community as they fled on foot. Three of the bullets penetrated\nthe windows of the home of little Tira and her parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The police were summoned and on arrival, it was discovered\nthat Tira and her mother were shot and wounded. They, along with the two\nteenagers, were assisted by the police to the hospital, where Tira was\npronounced dead.&nbsp; The two teenagers were\nadmitted in serious condition, while Tira\u2019s mother was treated and released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NEGATIVE COMMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tira\u2019s father has expressed concern over the negative\ncomments swirling around pointing out that neither he nor his baby\u2019s mother is\ninvolved in anything negative or unlawful and that he would not put his young\nfamily in any danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;He said the attack on\nthe house was random as the gunmen were firing shots all the way from the square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the meantime, National Security Minister, Dr. Horace\nChang, who on Sunday visited the area in the aftermath, described the incident\nas most unfortunate and tragic, as he sought to assure the family and residents\nthat the security forces were working speedily and efficiently to bring the\nperpetrators to justice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI want to reassure citizens we are in a better position to\nrespond quickly and we are going to take every step required to bring in the\nkillers, to bring them to justice,\u201d Chang said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chang, while assessing the situation, suggested that since\nthe granting of extended opening hours for small businesses under the State of\nEmergency three weeks ago, there has been an increase in the number of\nhomicides committed in the parish.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSince that, we have had a series of murders. In the\noriginal orders, the shops were required to close at eight.
