{"id":2616,"date":"2019-07-31T18:40:52","date_gmt":"2019-07-31T18:40:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/westernmirror.com\/?p=2616"},"modified":"2019-07-31T18:40:56","modified_gmt":"2019-07-31T18:40:56","slug":"gunmen-take-off-with-25m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/westernmirror.com\/?p=2616","title":{"rendered":"Gunmen take off with $25M"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Barrington Flemming<\/em> <\/strong><em>&#8211; Staff Reporter<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Trelawny Police\nhave enlisted the support of the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime\nDivision, as they step up their probe into the armed robbery of $25 million\ndollars from a group of subcontractors at Emancipation Drive, Duncan Hills,\nTrelawny, last Thursday, July 25.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, in charge of Trelawny police,\nsaid while it is early days yet, they have made some progress in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reports indicate that the sub-contractors, who are part of a\nteam working on the Ocean Coral Spring Hotel site, went to the bank where they\nwithdrew the cash intended for the payroll of the workers on the construction\nsite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;It was while the men\nwere at a house at Emancipation Drive, Duncans Hill, that four men gained entry\nto the house about 11p.m. and demanded that they hand over the money bag. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The gunmen, it is reported, tied up and beat the men,\ninflicting wounds to their upper body, before making good their escape with the\nbag of money.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trelawny\u2019s top cop said the major heist is cause for concern\namong law enforcers as the money could be used to further fuel criminal\nactivities, in and around the parish.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is of great concern to the police that such a large sum\nof cash is now into the hands of the criminal underworld.
