Western Jamaica continues to bleed, amidst cries from some quarters that the State of Emergency imposed on the region over a month ago, is ineffective.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Killings seem to be the order of the day, especially in St.\nJames and Westmoreland, with several deaths and scores of persons wounded\nacross the three parishes, to include Hanover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest victims are 25-year-old Kimani McIntosh of Mud\nValley, Granville, and Floyd Frazer, contractor of Richmond Hill and Norwood,\nboth in St. James, as well as 22-year-old Junior Campbell of Hartford, Whithorn\nin Westmoreland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McIntosh was killed about midday on Monday. Reports are that\nresidents heard gunshots and later saw McIntosh running towards the Retirement\nmain road where he collapsed. He was assisted to the Cornwall Regional Hospital\nwhere he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was reportedly shot in the head and upper body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Frazer\u2019s case, police report that about 8 p.m. on Sunday,\nhe was driving in the upper class community of Mango Walk, when he was ambushed\nand shot dead by unknown thugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Campbell, meanwhile, was shot dead by unknown assailants as\nhe lay asleep inside a house in the community called Train Line in Hartford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to reports from the Police, Campbell was in a back\nroom of the dwelling on a bed when hoodlums opened gunfire through the glass\ndoor and the window, hitting him in the neck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gunmen later escaped on foot and Campbell was later\npronounced dead at the Sav-la-Mar Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SOE NOT WORKING<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some residents living in various communities where the\ncrimes have been rampant and show no sign of slowing, insist the State of\nEmergency is a big waste of time and taxpayers\u2019 money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scarlett Wisdom, who hails from Salt Spring, St. James,\nwhere shootings have continued, though no killings, told the Western Mirror<\/strong>.\n\u201cI don\u2019t know what the hell this State of Emergency is for, it\u2019s just all a\ngrand waste of time. Over here, gun shots continue to ring out night after\nnight and although nobody nah dead, the guns them still on the street, plenty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Courtney McPherson of Granville also feels that crime is\nstill too active in the parish. \u201cI am trying to further my education and night\nafter night, it proves very difficult for me as staying out late at night to\nparticipate in study sessions could prove costly. I have to try and get home as\nearly as I can as in my area, where a man was killed recently, you know the\nguns are still there because you hear them at nights, even in your sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe soldiers are on patrol almost all the time, you see\nthem in the communities walking the lanes and conversing with the residents,\nbut that\u2019s not helping to rid the street of the dangerous weapons,\u201d McPherson\ndeclared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSome soldiers come through pon a certain time,\u201d declared\n\u2018Miss Cutie\u2019 of Paradise, \u201cbut larks, that alone nah help. Andrew need another\nplan. Is like the bad man them know when them coming and when they are to leave\nso. They come off the street until and then the action begins. I\u2019ve been living\nhere since me born and trust me, these young boys carrying out the wrongdoings,\nsome of them are as clever as the lawmen and even more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, PNP Caretaker for Central St. James, Andre\nHylton, told the Western Mirror<\/strong> that the state of emergency is not\nworking. \u2018What we need is to sit down with the youths in these communities.
