The Orchard main road in Hanover was stained with blood on Sunday November 1 as a fatal collision claimed the life of a man to usher in the new month.
The deceased has been identified as 19 year-old rafter Icoll Atherton of Mount Pelier Sandy Bay in the parish.
Investigators probing this latest motor vehicle collision report that about 5:20 a.m. on Sunday Atherton was driving a red Missile motor cycle along the Orchard Main road toward Lucea when on reaching a section of the roadway a white Hino truck travelling in the opposite direction allegedly veered from the right side of the road into the path of Atherton’s motor cycle causing a collision.
The force of the impact flung Atherton onto the roadway where he sustained multiple injuries.
He was subsequently transported to the Noel Holmes Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the truck as well as a passenger in the truck, who were both injured, were also taken to hospital where they were treated.
Since the start of the year Jamaica recorded 286 deaths as a result of 247 fatal crashes. This represents a 10% decrease when compared to the corresponding period last year.
