An open letter to â€˜Butchâ€™ Stewart
Dear Mr. Stewart, My sincere and warmest greetings to you. I write to specifically commend and felicitate you on your outstanding, exceptional and exemplary service that you have given to this country over the past thirty years within the countryâ€™s tourism industry and also within the commercial business sector. You have over the many decades carefully, prudently, skillfully and professionally built, directed and managed your various business establishments which have all immensely contributed to the country and its economy throughout the period. All throughout those years you have undoubtedly worked exceedingly hard to promote and market your many businesses both within the commercial and tourism sectors and this proves your total commitment to this country and the Jamaican people which makes me very, very proud of you to put it bluntly. It took many years for you to have diligently build your tourism and business empire, but nevertheless you firmly stayed the course, made sagacious business decisions and investments and had a superb team of staff members and managers which allowed your businesses to have significantly flourished and grown over the period. You also, had comprehensive trust, faith and confidence in the people and various governments of this country and at all times worked in the interest of the development of Jamaica which vividly proves and demonstrates that you are a decent, honourable, caring and vastly patriotic son and businessman of this country and one who deeply and sincerely loves the Jamaican people. You have clearly and unambiguously shown that you are a businessman, investor and hotel mogul of the highest integrity, character and morals and one who fervently recognizes that through hard work, vision, commitment and wise business investments along with Godâ€™s guidance nothing is impossible to achieve within the business and investment sectors respectively.
You toiled long and hard over the decades in your various business endeavours and today you are an enormous role model within the tourism and business sectors of which the country can be certainly proud of from my perspective.
I am most proud of your gargantuan and worthy business accomplishments and continue to admire and respect you for the fact your many business establishments employ thousands of persons across the country and currently contribute tens of millions of dollars into the Jamaican economy each year. What is also praiseworthy, is the fact that all of your businesses including your world class and multi-award winning Sandals and Beaches Resort hotels have all gained prominent positive world business reviews each year of which this country have tremendously gained repeated international recognition and this proves that your companies and hotels are all managed and directed to the highest business and tourism standards within an international framework if you will. I wish to specifically extend my sincere appreciation and thanks to you for regularly contributing in many different forms to the community of Flanker in Montego Bay and to other areas of this great city of Montego Bay and its environs. Sandals Resorts International on a yearly basis offers a number of scholarships to needy young students within Montego Bay and for this important initiative I congratulate you and your Sandals Group for financially supporting this programme annually. And I am aware of other scholarships that you give to other needy students in other areas where Sandals operate. Your well known support for the comprehensive education of the country’s youngsters is commendable and your regular financial support in this regard is greatly appreciated frankly speaking. You certainly have the interest of the country’s youth at heart and for this pivotal concern I congratulate you wholeheartedly.
You have honourably served over the years many important organizations within the country including as president of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association and president of the Private Sector Organization Of Jamaica and during your tenure your accomplishments were many and noted I humbly say and always in the direct interests of the people and country of Jamaica.
I must also with reservations commend you as Chairman of the Jamaica Observer newspaper for keeping each year the highly respected, well known and prestigious Observer Business Awards where several worthy and prominent businessmen in Jamaica have been honoured for their long-standing contribution to business in Jamaica by the Observer. And recently, the principal of DIGICEL Mr. Dennis O’Brien received the Observer Business award for an overseas investor of which he surely deserved. In previous years your Observer newspaper also had the prestigious Observer Community Service Awards which were awarded to several persons at that period.
Here in Montego Bay recently you successfully opened your multi-service dealership and service centre for a number of brand name vehicles including Honda, Land Rover, Audi, Jaguar, and VW. Your company will certainly pump millions of dollars into the economy of Montego Bay and Western Jamaica and I have no doubt that your auto dealerships and service centre will be a major plus for Montego Bay and have provided employment for a number of persons who reside in the city and its environs. I continue to wish all the success for your companies namely the Appliance Traders Group of Companies, Sandals Beaches Resorts International, Island Routes Limited and the Jamaica Observer newspaper. I wish you continued success as you expand your various companies and for your continuous support to the people of this country and throughout the Caribbean. I do sincerely hope and pray that your company Sandals will be successful in purchasing the Sandals Whitehouse hotel property located in the parish of Westmoreland which I understand will be expanded after you have purchased the property.
